When a flight computer is used in a spacecraft, the hardware itself is only one part of the engineering deliverable. Customers also need sufficient technical documentation to understand the product, integrate it into their spacecraft, verify its interfaces and performance, and maintain appropriate configuration control throughout the mission.
Every CAVU flight computer is supplied with a comprehensive standard documentation package as part of the product. This gives customers the technical information required for normal engineering evaluation, system integration and product operation without automatically imposing the cost and schedule associated with a highly formal mission-specific documentation programme.
For missions requiring a deeper level of documentation, CAVU can additionally support ECSS-, NASA- or customer-specific documentation and processes as a dedicated engineering activity or even sometime when client needs access to Samtec connectors to connect their own peripheral boards, we share detailed ICD, pin map, 3D Altium file & schematics.
A spacecraft customer needs confidence not only that the computer works, but also that it can be properly integrated into the spacecraft. The CAVU standard documentation package is designed to provide the engineering information needed throughout the integration process, covering areas such as:
- Datasheet
- Electrical & Mechanical ICD
- 3D Models
- Architecture, Functional & Physical Block Diagrams
- User Guide
- MPMPL
- Platforms to estimate power consumption in different operation modes
- Board Support Package in GitLab
- FMEA
- CIL
- FDIR
- Reliability Assessment
- Radiation Analysis
- Mechanical Analysis
- PAP, QAP
- End Item Data Package
- Certificate of Conformance
- Test reports (EMC, Vibration, TVAC, Radiation- TID, Burn-In)
- Case: ICD of Samtec Connector to connect peripheral boards
This document defines the connector-level electrical and mechanical interface required for a customer-designed add-on card for the CAVU OBC-HYPER-POLAR. It covers the Samtec QSH high-speed expansion connector on the board underside, the J3 ADC /auxiliary connector, and the J6 debug / JTAG connector. It also includes mating recommendations, photographs, and enclosure handling instructions relevant to the currently supplied OBC assembly.
The exact documentation package depends on the CAVU flight computer and its configuration. This approach means that customers receive a substantial engineering information package without having to build a documentation programme from zero after purchasing the hardware.
